July 14, 2011 § 2 Comments
Africa Fashion Week New York started it’s runway shows July 14, featuring a who’s who of African fashion designers. Project Runway‘s Korto Momolu from Liberia, Rouch, Jo Black Craze and Blackbird designs are all on schedule for day one. One of the newest designers is a young Sierra Leonean designer who just established her brand two years ago. Madam Wokie’s Couture is the brainchild
of Maryann Kai Kai, who is scheduled to showcase her line on Saturday July 16. All the fabrics and hats in that Fall/Winter collection are eco-friendly, sourced from local artisans and aimed at sustainable development in Sierra Leone. Plan on being in New York this weekend? All the AFWNY shows take place at the Broad Street Ballroom, 41 Broad Street, New York, NY. Keep an eye out for more on Africa Fashion Week New York; our good friend, blogger Bennu Cafe is also in the thick of things and will be sending back reports from the field!
