Di’ja Proudly Waves the Flag

If you haven’t already heard of this young pop singer from Canada – by way of Nigeria and Sierra Leone – called Di’ja, well…allow me to tell you! I found her proudly waving the Sierra Leone flag at a performance in Silver Spring, Maryland, as she sang two of her hits: “Rock Steady,” and “Get the Girl.” With two university degrees already under her belt, you can kinda guess she’s well on her way to her goal of being “a very successful West African woman in both academics and entertainment.” I got a chance to chat with Di’ja and her manager backstage after her performance. Found her to be very warm, friendly, determined, and confident. Not surprising, really, considering she’s previously been nominated for Best New Artist at the Canadian Radio Music Awards (2009).
In fact, her break came when she took home the gold in an annual talent search – The Beat Music Awards – put on by Canadian radio station The Beat 94.5.
